Can you smell the stale air around here? Apr. 6th, 2009 @ 10:50 pm
Oy. Talk about lack of use.

The last post in this derelict place dates from the end of 2007. Looks like I've surpassed the one year mark as you said, Josh! I'm so terrible at keeping a current journal, it's not even funny. I suppose because my life seems so mundane to me at times I can't really think anyone might want to read about this stuff. Would you read a book about a guy cooking breakfast or doing his laundry? Barred any intricate and detailed description of a bloody battle between sock factions within confines of the holy Dryer land, of course. It might grab my attention then.

It's always unfortunate when I spend so long without updating, if only because it's such a headache to start anew. Not because I don't want to post, but because I'm not too sure how to approach this. It's like looking at a looming, menacing pile of dirty dishes and asking the one question that trumps them all in such a situation - where do I start to take this evil down?

Truth be told, I'm not too sure what needs said. So I think I'll write this post just to say 'Hey guys, I'm still alive and around' - and make an effort to keep this journal orderly before the dust takes over. I'll really try this time, I swear!

-Those spotting the unmistakable smell of cop-out in this post need not check their olfactory sensitivity - this whole entry literally *rolled* in it prior to being posted. Apologies in advance to everyone.

Host of quizzes. Jul. 27th, 2007 @ 06:43 pm
I always seem to hold off on posting these until I get a disproportionately huge file full of meme junk. I am so bad at keeping this place updated, it is almost sad. At the very least I can say here that I am still alive, although the recent times have been pretty stressful and trying - what with certain problems with [info]mieu's immigration and the like. Things are getting much better though, so that is a great relief.

And now, onwards to the much less deep part of this post, where I attack this zone with a ton of quizzes and memes, with all the subtlety of an air force pilot performing a carpet bombing of his friend's list. Keep off these grounds if you do not want to see oddly fitting test results, or if you're allergic to napalm.

This zone has now been declared contaminated with quizzes of all kinds. )

And now, back to your usual LJ Broadcast.

(Which sort of makes my journal the commercial break of your friend's lists. Presented by the Sanguine Raven, giving you time to head to the bathroom in between intense LJ reading sessions since 2003!)

Guess what... Another quizz-meme thing! Jun. 15th, 2007 @ 10:00 pm
I broke some sacrosanct rule by posting in my journal for the SECOND TIME THIS MONTH. If you look back at my archive, I have some sort of pattern going where I have exaclty one post a month. So uh, well, I'm trying to break that by being more active on here - commenting and posting more and such. I know I've been saying that a lot and all, but this time it seems to be actually working! :o And now, have a side of tarot cards, it's on the house.

The one post a month pattern has been C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BROKEN! )

... I always get that result no matter which test I take. This might seem kinda odd, but I suppose the people who know me best will understand why it's fitting. Besides, I kind of like to be the harbinger of change >_>

And now away I go! To fight crime! Or something to that effect, anyways.

Stop - Memetime. Jun. 12th, 2007 @ 03:12 pm
Since I prodded [info]runaire about it, I'll repost this thing here (I am unsure if anyone is going to respond, but I promise I won't bite if you do! ;_;)

Leave a comment and I will pick three of your interests and three of your icons I would like you to explain. Post them in your journal and allow others to comment and request the same.

Again, feel completely free to ignore the last part. Far from me the idea of becoming some sort of Post Dictator that makes you post memes in your journals in the name of the Great Motherland, or else.

For the sake of curiosity, here's what [info]runaire whapped me with:

cheese:
Cheese is LAW. I eat it with as many types of food as it will allow me, and eat it as a snack to drive the point in even more. [info]mieu teases me about it, but she just ignores the hold cheese has over ALL. Bow to the cheese! It rules the Food Empire with it's soft, squishy fist.

feudal japan:
Not to be confused with Rurouni Kenshin, or any of the other flavors of the same type. I sure as hell don't think Japan is a golden land of badassness and people talking with their eyes closed for maximum coolness impact. But I do have a certain fascination with the feudal period of the country. The historical tales have a certain charm to them, and I do admit I am quite found of the armor-crafting of the time period. (It has to do with my other fascination for masks also, but this is a story for another bedtime entirely.)

fretless bass:
Well, those who know me know I not only play bass, but that I am also some sort of bass!nerd (or however it's hip to type these sorts of expression on the intarnets - I've never been particularly considered cool in any sort of community :o). The only bass I have now is a fretless actually, since I wanted to teach myself to play that first. Masochistic, maybe, but it pays off since I have a much easier time with fretted now. As for the WHY, well, I love the overall sound of fretless. It has a smooth, liquid-y quality to it that I find really appealing. But then again, it's bass, so I'm horribly biased on the subject matter.

Onwards to icons! :o

It's Judge Magister Gabranth! To express my support for Archadian Judges (the ones that don't suck at least. *cough*Bergan*cough* The image is also a full, life-size Gabranth prop used at the Squenix stand at one of the game shows. I keep wanting to steal it and stick it in our bedroom or something. (And turn it away from the bed - no sense in making Gabranth appear like some sort of creepy voyeur or anything of the sort).

Baofu icon! To represent for Persona2, of course. I do plan on making more Baofu icons, actually. I blame miss [info]runaire for throwing a garbage truck filled with barrels of fuel on the fires of my obsession for this game (and Megaten in general). Anyways, Baofu can hear you, don't go around being all potty-mouthed now.

Again, [info]runaire comes to the rescue to dangle Megaten fan-fodder at me like a Subway sandwich in front of a homeless guy. She made the pretty Gale icon (Gale from Digital Devil Saga, for those of you who need to GET THE GAME AND BASK IN ITS AWESOME). It fits awesomely with my journal theme, and I love the pic she took - Gale looks both focused and *gasp* sad and introspective, so it's an amazing shot. Also, I keep imagining the shot being taken between two long bouts of "I do not comprehend", so it makes the icon all the more <3.

Here comes the Bandwagon! Quick, jump! Apr. 13th, 2007 @ 11:25 pm
Since I said to a couple people that I would post that here, here's that fandom meme that has been floating around recently. I don't really expect many guesses, but I still post it, in the spirit of fun :D Here goes!

1. List 10 fandoms.
2. Have people try to pick your favorite character from it.
3. When guessed correctly, edit in the person and an explanation why they are your favorite.

1) Brigandine

2) Final Fantasy IX

3) Final Fantasy XII (2 characters remaining)
Judge Magister Gabranth - Guessed by [info]runaire
Yep, my Judge obsession rears its head. >_> Gabranth starts out as a character that seems very despicable - but as the story goes on, it is revealed that he has much more depth than it would first seem. His loyalty and devotion make him, of course, a very appealing character. Also, I am a shameless fan of Gabranth x Drace. >_>;; More love for them!

4) Metal Gear Solid Series (2 characters remaining)
Big Boss/Naked Snake - Guessed by [info]runaire
Introduced in the original games as the ex-leader of Fox-Hound, and referred to as the 'greatest soldier that ever lived' - but it's really through Snake Eater that one gets to feel for the man behind the legend. I keep stating that the MGS series are probably my favorite games, all genres confounded, and Snake Eater is probably at the top of that - the events that would later shape Big Boss just have that much power and intensity. Kudos to the man.

5) Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Baofu - Guessed by [info]runaire
I find myself appreciating Katsuya a lot, especially for, again the loyal and just qualities he represents. But for some reason, I always felt some kinship for the smirking wiretapper - perhaps because he represents the side that understands that sometimes, to get result, one has to get his own hands dirty. Again, a much more complex character than what first appears, which I really like. Also, big big kudos for socking one to that scumbag that had scammed Ulala :D

6) Phantasy Star III (2 Characters)

7) Phantasy Star IV

8) Shining Force I

9) Shin Megami tensei: Digital Devil Saga
Cielo - Guessed by [info]runaire
In all actuality, I am starting to have an almost equally strong liking of Gale, now that me and [info]mieu are almost through the game. We'll see how that develops in the end, and in the next game. As for Cielo, he's my original favorite. He's the guy that brings a little bit of optimism and a tint of humor to a world that is otherwise very dark. And I guess that's something I appreciate - being able to bring a little optimism around, 'cause Gods know we need it sometimes. >_>;

10) Valkyrie Profile : Lenneth (2 Characters)
Suo - Guessed by [info]runaire
Not too sure just how popular Suo is, but it's one of those characters I've felt a strong kinship to from the VERY first time I played through. Of course, the shallow aspects are there - I've studied kendo for a certain period of time, for example, and people who know me know I have a great appreciation for period Japanese armor. But it goes much beyond that. With Suo, it is once again the very concept of integrity, duty and loyalty that really made me feel for the character. Even with the little screen time, this is one of those character that just exude an untouchable sense of nobility.

Hmm, there a lot of multiples >_>; Though, when it happened it's often (but not always) because it's characters that went better as a pair. *free hint*

*Edit: Wow, a five in five bonanza, Lumi :D Though I guess by now you'd know what I like >_>;

» A short update to let people know whats going on...
Hello to all.

This post is not as much about me as it is about [info]mieu - those of you who read her personal journal might know, from her last post that a few things recently occurred that led her to think she had to take a rest for a little while. As it goes, [info]mieu has also fallen sick, with what I believe to be a good case of the flu.

So, as the one stirring the ship now that the Captain is sick, I felt it would be part of my job to tell the people who care bout her what's going on with her.

My Belladonna blossom is currently in bed, with a fever and a hurty throat. I'm staying on standby to step up when she needs anything, i.e. when she wakes up and feels thirsty or needs to have her pillow rearranged. Yesterday had some of the symptoms first appear, but today has seen the worst of it - she has been bedridden the whole day, stepping out to eat and have a bath, and going back in the afternoon to read until she recently fell asleep.

For those who have read the post I have linked above (and I am pretty sure a lot of you did read it from her journal already), I believe this might be the culmination of all the stress and lack of sleep [info]mieu has felt in the past couple months or so. She has agreed to take a rest for the week, and with this flu developing on her, it almost feels like her body enforcing it on her - to lay low for a while and get some rest and sleep.

I pass on her helloes to everyone of you. She's not forgetting any of you even when away, and to anyone who has expressed concern about her current state and the role they might have played in it, I reiterate here, on her behalf: It's not at all your fault. It's enough that you are staying around, that you inquire about her and care. [info]mieu knows you are, ultimately concerned about her, and realizes the hardest part in this battle is to recognize what the real enemy is - because it gets difficult when that enemy is your own thoughts and defense mechanisms, and the only way to counter that is to reverse-engineer some of those walls you've built for more than two decades.

So that's it, in a nutshell. For those worrying about [info]mieu's physical condition, don't worry, I'm keeping a very close watch on it - I'll return you a healthy Mieu by the end of the week. Should any of you need to contact one of us during the week, my ICQ is always on (#65880606 for those who use ICQ but don't have my #), though I might not get your message right away since I go back and forth between the bed, the kitchen and this chair a lot. There also my email (ravenkazuki at gmail dot com), as an alternate route.

So there, you have it. Hope to see you again soon, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

~Jon.
» Icons! :o
And now, a *gasp* post from the master of inane!

In the spirits of honing my mastery as cited above, I present this little update, which has no real goal except to show around the new lil' icons I made. Useless, perhaps, but an update nonetheless!

Icon-ness hidden behind this cut! )

So heeeere. It's all in good fun, really :D This is a post to see if I can kick myself into posting more... Let's see just how long that manages to succeed.
» Wishes Galore! (Cross Post)
Since I had written this as a comment on Mieu's greetings for the holidays!, and as such I thought it might be a good idea to cross post the comment here, so everyone that hangs around here can see it!

Hope you guys have had a good christmas, and I will see you around soon!

Jon's Holiday Greetings! )
» Another meme for good measure.
It's ganked from [info]tyrmais!

Nippon Ichi Character Quiz! )

Hee. Funny thing is, [info]mieu took the same quiz and ended up with Prier. Talk about funnily fitting results XD
» And now for something completely different.
Meme Time! Since [info]runaire kindly answered it for me on her own journal, I must now post it right here too!

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll challenge you to try something.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours.

Not many people on this journal right now, but I'll try my best with the people that get curious enough to try! :o
» Transition finally complete! o_o\
Whew. It took a while to put everything back together, and to find the right amount of time and inspiration to finally finish the transition to this journal. First post for a new start, so here I am again.

This journal is reborn from the ashes of [info]kazuki_shoju, so if you had this one on your friendlist by any chance, it will no longer be updated as of now. This present journal is the new instance, and let us hope I will be better at keeping up with it... (Just remember, however, even if I don't write very often in here, I still read about you!)

Thanks for being around, as always, and many many thanks to those who wished to follow me here even through the hassle of moving and adding... It's good to be back, and I hope to be more active in the future!

See you around the corner. ^^
